Amsterdam is a great city for art and culture, but it’s also got some fantastic coffee. If you ever find yourself in this buzzing city for work or leisure, try and check out one of these two brilliant locations for coffee lovers.
- Caffénation, Warmondstraat 120
Located fairly centrally in Amsterdam’s Belgian quarter, Caffénation is not one to miss. Well known in Belgium, Caffénation has come to have a superb reputation amongst locals, and has been highly reviewed by many specialty coffee reviewers including the Coffee Vine.
The shop itself is spread over two floors and you can get your expertly brewed coffee to go or to drink in. A really delicious creation written about and reviewed in a speciality coffee publication consisted of a cappuccino base with white chocolate, honey, and ginger – what’s not to love!?
If you choose to sip your drink at one of the colourful table and chairs inside, you’ll have beautiful views overlooking the park opposite. As is fitting with Amsterdam’s general child-friendly nature, there is a small kids’ play area inside the coffee shop, making this a great stop even if you’ve got kids with you.
Many people have said that while the coffee at Caffénation is unparalleled in the area, it’s the proprietor, Bert, that people come to see. He is wonderfully eccentric and always up for a chat. He also doesn’t mind if you bring your own sandwich to the store to eat, as they don’t serve food.

If you enjoy a good baked treat with your hot drinks then this is surely the place for you. The moment you walk in through the door, you’ll be hit with wafts of delicious baked treats, freshly roasted coffee, and the wonderfully vibrant décor.
The coffee served up has been roasted just a few doors down, and if you’re visiting with a friend who isn’t a coffee lover, be rest assured that there is a great selection of loose leaf tea to choose from.
A Rum Baba is a popular French cake which is effectively a small whole brioche that’s been lovingly soaked in rum. As the name of the establishment may reflect, the freshly baked cakes sold here are delicious and it’ll be impossible to choose just one to accompany your coffee!
